Visit from Swiss and German Rowing Clubs

18 rowing enthusiasts from 7 rowing clubs across Germany and Switzerland visited Tingjin at our Xuanwu Lake venue. Members from both groups had the chance to get to know each other and to row together in some quadruple sculls. After a 12-kilometer outing, the clubs exchanged flags and club pins, symbolizing friendship and cultural exchange. Tingjing looks forward to a return visit sometime in the future, and hopefully our clubs will meet again in future regattas.

London Rowing Club Visit on the banks of the River Thames

With the assistance of our member Rob, some of our club members visited London Rowing Club in the UK for an exchange. London Rowing Club was established in 1856, and has a glorious history and proud achievements.

In 2008, two members of the club represented the British national team in the Olympics held in Beijing and achieved an impressive fifth place. The club had further Olympic success, with members returning with medals from both the London and Rio Games. At the recent Henley Royal Regatta, the London crew was victorious in the Wyfold Challenge Cup.

Our members rowed a quadruple scull on the Thames with one of the club’s most successful rowers George Crowley, a member of the crew that won the Wyfold Cup at Henley. Hopefully the Chinese whisky and club pins will go some way towards showing our appreciation to George and Kathleen, who helped organize the event. The two clubs are looking forward to meeting again at future regattas in the UK. Compared with London Rowing Club, Tingjin Rowing Club, founded in 2016, is still just a child and has many areas for further growth, including the culture, organization, sponsorship models, among others. China is a developing country, and rowing itself is also still developing. However, we are confident in developing into an excellent rowing club like London Rowing Club. Please stay tuned. Tingjin would also like to extend thanks to Dandan, Alison and Chris for their help on the day.

United States collegiate rowing team visit

The United States college rowing team, who participated in the World University Games in Chengdu, China, arrived in Nanjing and met us at Xuanwu Lake. A number of topics were discussed, such as American college rowing culture and the professional development of rowers. Through this exchange, a firm friendship was formed between each other.

The members of the United States collegiate rowing team come from famous American universities such as the University of Southern California, Washington University in St. Louis, Purdue University, and Ohio State University. We also invited representatives of rowing teams from various universities in Nanjing, such as Nanjing University and Southeast University, to participate in the exchange activities. We jointly launched rowing activities at two water sports bases, Xuanwu Lake and Yangshan Lake. Through rowing, we have gained a mutual understanding and friendship. Everyone is very happy and looking forward to more opportunities to row together in the future.
